The Death of Mrs Gorham Bacon
The death of Mrs Elizabeth Simpkins, the wife of Dr Gorham Bacon of New York City occurred at her winter home at that place, Sunday Jan 30th,after a short illness of five days of pneumonia.
It was sad news to her many friends in this village, where she had been an interested summer resident for many years.
She took great pride in her beautiful residence, Mattakese,where each summer she entertained many friends at parties and receptions to enjoy her rose gardens and floral displays.She was a woman of pleasing personality and was known for her many charitable deeds.
The funeral services were held at her home in New York,Tuesday afternoon,Rev Julien K Smythe of the New Jerusalem Church officiating.The remains were brought to this village, by special train Wednesday, and interment was in the family lot in Woodside cemetery.
