Death Claims Richard Wolfe At His Home
Prominent Eagle Township Farmer Summoned After Brief Illness
For the second time within the brief span of a few months, death has invaded the home of one of Eagle townships most prominent families, claiming after an illness that extended over a period of six months, Richard Wolfe, father of the young man who passed away in the early Spring. The greater part of this year found the decedent in the grip of an illness that has kept him confined to his home west of the city. A few weeks ago saw the development of the change that gradually broke down his resistance and culminated in his passing yesterday afternoon. Most of his friends and acquaintances were aware of the condition of Mr. Wolfe, but few realized that the end was so near and it was with considerable shock that word of his passing was received in the community. Of a quiet, unassuming disposition, the decedent was one whose friendship was cherished by all with whom he came in contact. At all times he could be found to lend his assistance to a worthy cause, and because of his proficiency in farming and other lines of endeavor, his services were always in demand. His death has taken from the community one of its most estimable and kindliest citizens. Born in Ireland on May 5, 1844, Mr. Wolfe came with his parents to this country when four years of age, settling in LaSalle until June 13, 1871, when he was united in marriage with Kate Maher, in Eagle Township, where he took up his future residence. Here he has remained lending counsel to his neighbors and contributing greatly to the development of the community. Left to mourn the passing of the well known farmer are his wife and the following children: Mrs. A.C. Purcell of this city, Bart Wolfe of Eagle and Evelyn at home. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 o'clock Saturday morning from the residence three miles west and one-half north of this city and at 9 o'clock from the Church of Annunciation at Eagle. Interment will be in Lostlands cemetery.
