He married Christina Harms 27 March 1904 Spokane, Spokane County, WA.

He was a member of the Spokane Redeemer Lutheran Church and the North Pacific Grain Growers Association. He was a past president of the Harrington United Grain Growers.

His home was at South 151 Spruce St., Spokane, WA. He had lived in Spokane for about 68 years.

His funeral was held in the Redeemer Lutheran Church, N 404 Argonne Road, Spokane, WA.

Their children were:
Willard Tanke born 19 December 1903 and died 4 February 1911 is buried next to his mother's parents in the Lamona Lutheran Cemetery, Lamona WA.
