Spencer Roberts, widely known Hillsboro resident, a son of the late Dr. and Mrs. George Roberts , who resided in Lincoln for many years, died in Arlington Hospital on Thursday. Mr. Roberts, 74, was ill but a week. He had, however, been in poor health, for a number of years. His death occurred at the time his wife was critically ill. Mr. Roberts was born in Bazille Mills, Nebraska, and when a boy move to Creighton, Nebraska, where he lived until 1900, at which time he moved with his parents to Lincoln. He married Miss Anna M. Virts, of Hillsboro, June 26, 1901, and moved to Washington and later to Clarendon where he resided until 1929, at that time coming to Hillsboro to spend his remaining years. At the time of his death Mr. Roberts owned and operated a mercantile store in Hillsboro. He was retired member of the Metropolitan Police Force, Washington. Mr. Roberts had been an active member of the Modern Woodmen of the World for a number of years. He was secretary of the Hillsboro organization of Modern Woodmen. Surviving are his wife, who continues ill, five sons, Milton of Reno, Nev., Spencer, Jr. of Fredericksburg, George, Grant and Glenn at home; two daughters, Mrs. Ervin Waulters and Mrs. Willie Knott, both of Atlanta, Ga., and nine grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. H. C. Nalley, Miss Alice Roberts, both of Arlington, and Mrs. L. H. Taylor, of Lincoln. Services were held Sunday in Hillsboro Methodist Church, conduct by the Rev. A. N. Fritter, pastor. Burial was made in the Hillsboro Cemetery. The following were pallbearers, Nathan Neer, H. C. Thompson, H. C. Mullen, Cloyd James, C. C. Cooper and Sam Frederico of Arlington, the latter having conducted the burial services of the Modern Woodman at the grave.
