Elna had no children of her own, but was a much-beloved aunt, cousin and friend. She will be remembered for her poetry, musical talents ,playing both accordion and violin, her enjoyment of life in the country, fiery spirit and good luck at Bingo, which she won at her last attendance.
Elna's passing ends a generation from the pioneering Carlson family who immigrated to what was then the very remote Harstine Island. Her generation spanned some 103 years, starting with the birth of her sister Signie in 1906. Elna outlived all her siblings, a reality that she accepted stoically, but many times, lamented.
She is survived by Hildur (Wilson) Ashby, of Harstine Island, with whom she shared a remarkable lifelong friendship; which began when they were born a month apart to next door neighbors.
