John Lesley Atchley (Rusty)


John Lesley Atchley (Rusty) passed away February 8, 2013 at the age of 90.

He was born to Andrew and Pearl Jones Atchley, October 30, 1922 in Lamar, Oklahoma.

He married Mary Virginia Hagar in May of 1942, and they raised three daughters in Tulsa.

He was a Master Sergeant in World War II and also served in the Korean War. After being discharged from the army, they moved to Tulsa and he went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company as a maintenance mechanic.

In 1969, he started his own company, Atchley Service Company in Tulsa, OK and retired from it in 1985.

He was a member of the PEI, Pryor Creek Golf Club, and enjoyed being the first group to tee off at Mohawk Golf Course every Saturday morning for many years.

Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, RVing, traveling, and had a great passion for golf and love for his family and friends. He was a Mason with the Delta Lodge #425. He was a devoted member of Sheridan Road Baptist Church since 1955.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, George Wesley Atchley and his wife Maxine, and his older brother, James Cecil Atchley.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, three daughters: Linda Epperson and husband Gary of Bella Vista, AR, Charlotte Jacobs of Coweta, OK, and Rebecca L. Atchley of Canyon Lake, TX, five grandchildren: Randy Jacobs of Coweta, OK, Kimberly Hall and husband Shannon of Porter, OK, Jaclyn Arnold and husband Rocky of Coweta, OK, Bradley Epperson and wife Jen of Morrison, OK, and Melissa Binam and husband JR of Bentonville, AR, eleven great-grandchildren, close family friend, Marie Lara, and a host of other beloved family members.

Service will be held Tuesday, February 12, at 10 a.m., at Sheridan Road Baptist Church in Tulsa, OK with Pastor John Plum officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner, OK at 1 p.m.
