Obituary:
LUTHER Y. GRAY, SALVO LEADER, PASSES AWAY - Luther Y. Gray, public spirited leader and citizen of Salvo, Dare County, died Tuesday after an illness of several days. He had been in poor health for several years. Mr. Gray was the son of L.C. Gray, venerable citizen and retired surfman of Salvo. He was a leading spirit in the affairs of the Methodist church. He kept up the work of the burial association serving the villages in that section and before his illness, had been active in politics. He was one of the most useful and best loved citizens on the community, a faithful Sunday School teacher, good neighbor and friend. All his life was spent at Salvo. He is survived by his father; his wife; two daughters: Mrs. W.E. Whedbee of Salvo and Mrs. Calvin Midgett of Waves; also several half-brothers and half-sisters: Julian Gray of Florida, Cyrus Gray, Jr. of New York, Mrs. Perry Farrow of Salvo, Mrs. Claude Williams of Manteo, Mrs. Curtis Gray of Avon. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Salvo by Rev. J.D. A. Autry, pastor of the Salvo Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. M.W. Maness, pastor of the Manteo Methodist Church.
