W .E. Strider of Lexington died Tuesday night, February 8, from an accidental gunshot wound.
Mr. Strider returned home from his daughter's house (Mrs. Robert N. McLellan) next door accompanied by two of his grandchildren, Robin and Lidia McLellan. Immediately entering his house he discovered a shotgun that he left near the doorway. Mr. Strider reached to move the shotgun, grabbing it with his hand by the barrel. The gun discharged as he lifted it and the blast hit him in the head. His wife was in the kitchen of their home at the time of the accident.
Services for Mr. Strider will be held at 11:00 a.m. today (Thursday) at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with the interment in the Odd Fellow Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Janie Strider; one daughter, Mrs. Jean S. McLellan and three grandchildren, all of Lexington.

Strider Services Held Thursday
Funeral services for Walter Edward Strider, 71, were held at 11 o'clock Thursday, February 10 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Howard Allen officiating. Interment was In Odd Fellows Cemetery with Southern Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Strider died at his home late Tuesday afternoon as the result of an accidental gunshot wound. A prominent Lexington resident, he was Farmers Home Administrator for over thirty years, a member of the Rotary Club and a Presbyterian.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Janie Strider and a daughter, Mrs. Jean McLellan of Lexington; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth S. Lamar and Mrs. Dorothea S. Buchanan, both of Jackson; and three granddaughters, Miss Lanelle McLellan, Mississippi State University, Miss Robin McLellan and Miss Lydia McLellan of Lexington.
Pallbearers were his nephews, Donald Strider, H.C. Strider, Jessie Strider, Harold Strider, Benton Bloodworth, Durwood Bloodworth, Ivy Williamson and McHenry Allison.
