James Pribble was a Revolutionary War soldier, assigned to the western forts in and around today's Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His job was to travel between the forts, spying on the British troops and their Indian allies who occupied the area, and alerting the units manning the forts and the citizens of the local villages if he detected movement of the enemy forces. After the war, he was given a land grant in Kentucky, and it was there that he lived out his long life. His many descendents are buried with him in Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
