Obituary-Melvin Shearer, Jr., 82, of Lancaster, died Friday, Sept. 5 at the Veterans Administration Hospital. A native of Garrard County, he was born Dec. 16, 1925 to the late Melvin Shearer and Sabra Harp Shearer. He was a retired heavy equipment and agriculture mechanic, World War II veteran, and member of Forks of Dix River Baptist Church.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harrison, Carl and Floyd Shearer; six sisters, Loucella Hornsby, Edith Massey, Anna Boyd, Catherine Tarkington, Essie Shearer, and Bonnie Shearer.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Davis Shearer; one son, Jimmy (Mary) Shearer; one daughter, Doris Jean King of Stanford; four brothers, Donnie Ray (Jean) Shearer, Glenmore (Willetta) Shearer, and Douglas (Judy) Shearer all of Nicholasville, and Harvey (Virginia) Shearer of Arizona; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were Sept. 8 at the Spurlin Funeral Home in Lancaster with Rev. Bryce McCulley officiating. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
