Jacob was a farmer and was the oldest child of Christian Lutz and his mother was a Lohman who died when Jacob was 4 weeks old. He was raised in Perry Township by his uncle Mr Foreman where he stayed until his uncle died in 1857.

Jacob Lutz, aged 88 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Adam Miller, three miles west of the city Wednesday morning at 3:30 o'clock from infirmities of age. The deceased is survived only by Mrs Miller. The funeral will be held from the Miller residence Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. The Rev. N.E. Moffett officiating. Interment will be made in the West Brookfield Cemetery.
