His parents were Caspar Andes, b. Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany and Franziska "Frances" "Fredricka" Leman/Lehmann, of Baden, Germany. His father Caspar and brother Adam were stone-masons in New York City. Charles owned his own butcher shop in B'klyn. He had three sisters, Fredrika, Emma C. and Mrs. Josephine Emma Andes Lake.
He was married to Nellie "Ellen" Jane Murray, and they had nine children.
