Peter Brecheisen was born on January 15, 1823, in Linienhausen, Alsace, France to Philippe and Elisabeth Ernst Brecheisen, the tenth of eleven children. Peter came to America around 1845 at the age of 23. He married Wilhelmina Vitt in Chicago around 1849. They had eight children, William, born in France before they were married and later came to America with Wilhelmina's brother Leo Vitt in 1851, Peter II, Sophia Mary, John, all born in Illinois, George, Sarah Elizabeth, Charles Henry and Edward Emil born in Kansas. Peter and Wilhelmina arrived in Kansas in April 1857 and lived here for the of their lives. Peter died in 1875 and was buried in Clearfield Cemetery. Wilhelmina remarried for a short time to Bernhardt Kramer, until his death in 1880. She then moved to Osage county, near Vassar, and lived with her son Edward until her death in 1903. She was buried in Vassar Cemetery.
