Ruth Haney Abernathy, age 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at her home.
Born in Gaston County on September 28, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Elizabeth "Lib" Haney.
Ruth graduated from Mount Holly High School and Belmont Abbey College. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Holly where she was a member of the Pioneer Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women's Circle #6. She especially enjoyed participating in choir activities with husband Larry and enjoying the entire music ministry at the church.
Her special loves included; family, friends, spending time at the beach and working in the garden. Her years with Larry were special in her life.
She is survived by her husband, Larry M. Abernathy of the home, daughter Lynn Dean and husband Louie of Gastonia, son Keith Haney Richardson of Gastonia, stepdaughter Lisa Jones and husband Gary of Mt. Holly, grandchildren Travis and Alex Dean, Preston Richardson, step grandchildren Heather and Ryan Jones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Sara Ruth and brother, Jack L. Haney.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00PM Friday at First United Methodist Church, 140 N. Main St., Mt. Holly, NC 28120. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be private at Gaston Memorial Park.
