..He and Dr. Rufus Bratton, his brother, supported themselves in Canada by practicing medicine after the Civil war until they returned to York Co S.C. They both worked with their father as physicians and when he died Dr. John Simpson Jr. ran the Plantations owned by his mother and their large family. There were several doctors in the family so he only practiced medicine sparingly.
