Sylvia, along with her father Richard and brothers Richard, Jr., and Matthew, were killed while they slept in their Pico Rivera home by Michael Naranjo, then 17, who conspired with his then 16-year-old girlfriend, Monica Diaz, an adopted member of the Flores family, because they believed her parents did not approve of their relationship. Naranjo pleaded guilty and will remain in prison for the rest of his life. Diaz was found guilty by a jury and was also sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
