Elmer Van Heel

Elmer J. Van Heel, age 73, a resident of Swanville, MN, died October 13, 1998, at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls, MN.

Funeral services were held October 16 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Swanville with Rev. Thomas Meyer officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Elmer was born May 15, 1925, near Freeport, MN, to Frank and Agnes (Notch) Van Heel. He grew up near Freeport and attended Sacred Heart School in Freeport.

Elmer was united in marriage to Monica A. Weber on February 4, 1948, at St. Rosa Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa, MN. The couple lived in Wadena, MN, for two years where Elmer worked for an insulating company. In 1950, they purchased a farm in Culdrum Township, near Swanville, and farmed until semi-retiring in 1981.

Elmer was also a substitute school bus driver for the Swanville Schools for many years. He enjoyed farming and visiting with family, friends and neighbors. Elmer spend many hours helping to build the new St. John's Church and always offered his assistance to people who had a need. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, former member of the Swanville Sportsmen Club and St. John's Men's Club.

Survivors include his wife, Monica; sons, David Van Heel and wife Karen of Swanville and Mark Van Heel of Swanville; daughters, Jan Dorris and husband Stan of Texarkana, TX, Linda Ewald and husband Paul of Monticello, MN, Karen Clizbe of Memphis, TN, Diane Slimmer and husband Dan of Rice, MN, Laurie Gradin and husband Dan of Swanville and Brenda Van Heel of Minnetonka, MN; mother, Agnes Van Heel of Sauk Centre, MN; sisters, Leona Schloegl and husband Bernard of Sauk Centre, Val Schrantz and husband Don of Sauk Centre, Louise Minette and husband Al of Sauk Centre, Marian Huschle and husband Jerry of Bagley, MN, Lorraine Bierschbach of Melrose, MN, and Bernice Roering of Melrose; brothers, Art Van Heel and wife Dorothy of Freeport, MN, Francis Van Heel and wife Joan of Roseville, MN, Robert Van Heel and wife Janice of Freeport and Virgil Van Heel and wife Joann of Shakopee, MN; 15 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank in 1961 and a daughter, Eileen Vanselow in 1973.
