KILLED WHEN CABLE BREAKS

Art Adams Skull Crushed In Accident at Port Orford Wharf

Hit by Falling Block and Fails to Regain Consciousness - Was Employed by Wright & Sons in Sixes Camp But Had Been Transferred Helping to Work on Dock

Arthur Adams was fatally wounded Friday afternoon at about three o'clock at Port Orford and he passed away at Emergency Hospital in Bandon Saturday morning at 7:39.

He had been employed at Gus Hamilton's camp on Sixes for several months loading trucks for Wright & Sons Contractors, and as the recent rains made it impossible to haul out of the woods he was transferred to Port Orford dock where he was helping reload the logs to put aboard the Frogner. While loading with a gin pole the cable broke and the pole came down striking Mr. Adams on the head. Delmar Wright saw the pole falling and yelled to Mr. Adams. The latter tried to escape but ran only a few steps when the block caught him crushing his skull. He was carried to the Port Orford hotel and Dr. Arthur Gale of Bandon was summoned. Mrs. Adams was also called. Later he was taken to the hospital where everything possible was done but he died without regaining consciousness.

Arthur Chester Adams was born at Fishtrap near Coquille, February 2, 1884. He was 39 years, 7 months and 25 days of age. He lived practically his entire life in Coos County. He was united in marriage on October 23, 1906 to Nettie M. Christy of Grants Pass and to the union six children were born of whom five are living: Milo aged 14; Arlin, aged 12; Leslie, aged 10; Vivian, aged four, and Leita, aged two. He is also survived by his parents , Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Adams of Bandon, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Wm. Wimer of Coquille, James E. Adams of Four Mile, Herbert Adams of Powers, Claud Adams of San Francisco, Homer Adams of Bandon, and Mrs. Frank Albro of Bandon.

The deceased was well known in the community and left a host of friends as well as relatives to mourn his departure.

The funeral services were conducted at the Ellingsen undertaking parlor Monday, Rev. Jessie Barnett officiating. The pallbearers were fellow employees and friends of the deceased: Clarence Wright, Delmar Wright, Theo. Clinton, Floyd Kellogg, Ben Knight and Mr. Harris. Burial was made at the K. P. Cemetery. The floral offering was immense and many attended the funeral.
