Rachel Smalley Snider Oxley was born in Clinton County, Ohio, the daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Polly) Ligget Smalley. She died in Williamson County, Texas. Rachel was first married to John Snider on March 18, 1841, in Vermilion County, Ill. They had one known child, Samuel Snider. After John's death in 1852, Rachel joined the family in Texas, and after her sister Elizabeth's death, she married Enoch Oxley on October 4, 1853, in Fayette County, Texas. She and Enoch were the parents of Saphronia, Rachel Victoria, James Lewis, and Prudence Oxley. Rachel and James were twins.
