Funeral services for former Ward Five Alderman Denver L. Anding are scheduled for Friday at First Baptist Church.

Anding, 87, passed away Wednesday at his residence. He served as alderman of Ward Five from 1989 until 1993.

Ward Two Alderman Terry Bates, who served on the board with Anding, said he was a good friend to all and an honor to work with.

"He was a great person to be around and I was proud to serve on the board with him," Bates said. "Brookhaven is going to miss him."

Bates went on to laud Anding as a humanitarian and public servant who wanted only the best for Brookhaven.

"He was always there for the betterment of Brookhaven," Bates said. "We were always searching for ways to better the city. He was good at that."

Anding, a native of Brookhaven, was a retired driller with Marlin Drilling Co. and owned two trailer parks in Brookhaven.

He is survived by his wife Esizlee Roberts Anding; two children, Othel Anding and Sue Anding Case, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services for Anding are 1 p.m. on Friday, June 11, at First Baptist Church, with burial in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookhaven.

Visitation is Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive and Friday from noon until the time of service at the church.
