Also residing in the household were their children: 7 Y/O Iris Martha Appleton; 5 Y/O Loraine Lula Appleton; 3 Y/O Cora E. Appleton and 1 Y/O Ben Hill Appleton.

The 1910 US Census of Collinsville, DeKalb Co., AL enumerated the household of 49 Y/O John Ellis Appleton, a farmer, and his 38 Y/O wife, Amanda (Amanda M. Hill). Also living in the household were their children: 17 Y/O Iris Martha Appleton; 16 Y/O Loraine Lula Appleton; 13 Y/O Cora E. Appleton; 11 Y/O Ben Hill Appleton; 8 Y/O Frank B. Hugh's 18 Sep 1918 WWI registration card indicated he was a station agent for the Southern Railroad and was hard of hearing.

The 1920 US Census of Fort Payne, Al enumerated the household of 40 Y/O Hugh D. Garrison and his 26 Y/O wife, Iris Martha (Appleton) Garrison. Hugh Garrison was employed by the local railroad freight department in 1820. Also living in the household was 24 Y/O Loraine Lula Appleton, Iris' sister. Loraine was employed as a bookkeeper for the local railroad.

The 1930 US Census of Fort Payne, DeKalb Co., AL enumerated the household of 52 Y/O H. D. Garrison employed as a railroad depot agent. The only other person living in the household was his 37 Y/O wife, Iris, who was employed as a city school teacher. Iris had completed two years of college, probably at Jacksonville State Teachers College.

The 1940 US Census of Fort Payne, DeKalb Co., AL enumerated the household of 62 Y/O Hugh D. Garrison who was employed as a railroad and express agent. His 47 Y/O wife, Iris, was employed as an elementary school teacher. Interestingly, the only other person living in the household was a lodger, 31 Y/O Mary Allen Kirkland, who was employed as a rural elementary school supervisor (principal?) and member of the DeKalb County Board of Education.
