Death certificate lists October 30, 1830, as his birth date while the headstone reads August 10. Died of old age. Death certificate also lists his wife as his mother, which of course is incorrect.

OBITUARY OF PETER ALBERTHAL as written in the weekly newspaper.

"On Saturday night of last week Mr. Peter Alberthal, an old citizen of Gillespie County, departed from life after much suffering, over 89 years old. He immigrated to Texas in 1852 and came to Fredericksburg. Later he moved to Cave Creek and bought a farm. His first wife nee Elizabeth Goelzer died in 1897, seven years after the couple had moved into town. They had nine children of whom six are living - August, Charles, Henry, Herman, Minna, Mrs. John Durst, Anna, Mrs. Willie Moellering. After the death of his first wife, Mr. Peter Alberthal married Mrs. Emily Rose of Comfort who died in 1913.

He remained at his home in Fredericksburg until a few years ago when his eyesight began to fail. After that he lived with the families of his children. In 1918 he moved to the farm of his son, Charles Alberthal, on South Grape Creek, where he died. The deceased was in weak health for a long time and blind but he had the best of attention until his death.

He is survived besides his children by one sister, Mrs. Julius Klett, 41 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

Mr. Peter Alberthal was laid to rest in Union Cemetery on Monday afternoon, Rev. Koerner officiating. Many friends of the family attended the funeral which was had from the residence of his son, Mr. August Alberthal, in town."

Peter came to America (from Kapling, Germany) at the age of 22 and landed at Indianola, near Galveston, Texas on June 23, 1852 (or 1858).

Peter and Elizabetha Goelzer were married on September 26, 1852 in Gillespie County and (marriage license #57) and settled on land set aside for immigrants in a small community called Marshall's Creek. It was located about eight miles from Fredericksburg off the Burnet Road where they engaged in farming and ranching.
