MESA -- Catherine Stewart Brittenham, 86, a practical nurse who had worked for the late Dr. B. B. Moeur, Arizona's Democratic governor from 1933 to 1937, died Friday in Scottsdale Golden Age Nursing Home.
Mrs. Brittenham, 131 N. Matlock, a native of Mesa who was a life-long resident of the community, had homesteaded 160 acres south of Higley when she was 23 years old. Her parents were early settlers of the area, coming to the Valley in 1883.
She was a member of the 21st Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include two sons, James D. of Phoenix and Emery A. of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs. Juanita Fuller of Mesa and Mrs. Rosabell Taylor of Heber; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Russell of Mesa; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Meldrum Mortuary. Burial will be in Mesa City Cemetery.
