Jerome was the 6th child of Harvey S. Chaplin and Pheobe Clink. He was born in Rich Township, Lapeer Co., MI. The family can be found in there in the 1880 census. He married Linnie Woodrow, the daughter of William Woodrow and Ellie Buck. They wed on Mar. 28, 1899 in Lapeer, MI. The newlyweds can be found in the 1900 census for Rich Township, Lapeer County, Michigan. They are also there for the 1910 census.

"JEROME B. CHAPLIN

Jerome B. Chaplin, age 85 years, died Thursday, August 6th, 1964 at the Fisher Convalescent Home in Mayville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 10th at the west Deerfield Methodist Church with Rev. R. Kyle Ballard officiating. Burial was in West Deefield Cemetery.

Mr. Chaplin was born in Fostoria, Michigan on April 1, 1879 to Harvey and Phoebe (Clink) Chaplin. He married Linnie A. Woodrow and he is survived by his wife, who resides at Columbiaville; three sons, Howard of Flint, with whom he owned and operated several service stations in Flint before his retirement, Clayton of Florida and William of Clio; one daughter, Mrs. C. J. (Alfretta) Balman; one brother, Jeff Chaplin of Mayville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

He resided in this area for many years; as a child, youth and young man. He is well remembered by many of Mayville's older citizens. His mother, Phoebe was the daughter of John and Catherine Clink, one of Mayville's early pioneer families."
