Head-on Crash Claims Life of Piedmont Man

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Westernport for Patrick Michael Donnelly, 28, of West Hampshire St, Piedmont who was killed in a head-on collision early Tuesday morning. Burial was in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
Boal Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers were Derek Sarfino, Lonnie Donnelly, John Lease, Donald Amann, Steve Amann, Thomas Malcolm, Regis Cole and William Wilson.
The accident occurred at 6 am on Maryland State Route 135, one-tenth mile east of the Westvaco warehouse, according to TFC John Foley, of the Maryland State Police.
According to TFC Foley, Donnelly was operating a 1983 Dodge Colt eastbound on the highway and James E. Dawson, 36 of Ridgeley, was operating a 1980 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling west. The collision occurred in the east bound lane of the highway.
Both men were taken to Sacred Heart Hospital where Mr. Donnelly was pronounced dead on arrival and Mr. Dawson is in stable condition.
Both vehicles were demolished and towed from the scene by Reeves Towing Service. Tri-Towns Rescue Squad transported the victim and the injured man to the hospital.
Potomac Fire Company No. 2 and McCoole Fire Department were also on the scene after being alerted by Allegany County Civil Defense Emergency Center.
State Police are continuing their investigation of the accident.
Born in Keyser, WV he was the son of John A. Donnelly and Nancy L. (Mullan) Donnelly, Westernport.
Mr. Donnelly was employed as a mechanic for Virginia Electric and Power Company, Mt. Storm, WV; a member of St. Peter’s Church; an Army veteran; a member of Victory Squadron 155, Sons of the American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his widow, Tara (Hanna) Donnelly; son Shad Donnelly and daughter Corey Donnelly, both at home and a sister Mrs. Linda Spiker, Luke, Maryland.
