He married Juliann Ness ca. 1857 and fathered Sarah Jane (b. 06/25/58, d. 04/15/60), Mary Alice (b. 10/11/59, d. 07/22/61), Francis Alvin (07/05/61), Samuel Elias (b. 01/03/63, d. 03/02/63), infant son (b./d. 09/09/65), and Harvey Ness (b. 09/16/66). In 1860, he was a farmer living with his family in Shrewsbury Township, York County, although he is found in the 1863-65 draft registration residing in Springfield Township, York County. He stood 5' 8" tall and had brown hair and blue eyes.
