Bessie was the youngest daughter of William and Elvira Pyles Clark. She married Jefferson Ernest Hewitt at home in Ritchie County, WV on June 19, 1914. They had two infant daughters, Viola, and an unnamed premature baby born on Sept 18, 1916 who died a day later. Bessie died from TB two days after Viola, and they were buried together.
