He left England in September 1850 for America . He spent the winter in New Orleans and then went to St. Louis . He stayed until May 1853 , when he was hired to drive a team across the plains. Upon his arrival in the Valley, he settled in Bountiful . He helped guard the city when Johnston 's army came. He married twice in polygamy. He was musical and led the choir for nine years in Bountiful . In 1864 he moved his family to Empy Springs , later called Deweyville, Utah . He was a bishop, farmer, postmaster, school master, Justice of the Peace, and friend. He was a good father and husband. He was faithful in all his callings and was loved and respected by all.
