Charles 'Carey' Anderson, age 66, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. He was born in Clover, SC on July 5, 1943 and was the son of the late Charles Wingate and Yvonne Boyd Anderson.

Carey graduated from Belmont High School and attended East Carolina University where he was an outstanding baseball player. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam War then returned to ECU where he graduated with a M.A. in Education. He was a long-time member of Carmel Baptist Church and worked for many years in the insurance field. Acknowledging his special athletic skills, Carey was inducted in the Belmont Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Judith 'Judy' Auten Anderson, daughter and son-in-law, Karyn and Gregg Kirol of Charlotte, son, Charles Ryan Anderson of Raleigh, brother-in-law, Mike Auten and his wife, Martha of Belmont.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James 'Harry' Anderson and niece, Andrea Johnson.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday at Carmel Baptist Church, 1145 Pineville-Matthews Rd., Matthews, NC 28105 with Revs. Clay Barnes and Russ Rosser officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Thursday at McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
