Mr. Ahrens was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Marine Corps. He had worked as a printer, was a Rolling Meadows alderman from 1967 to 1979 and mayor from 1979 to 1990, and was a former member of the Rolling Meadows Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and the Clearbrook Foundation.
He was the husband of the late Betty A.; father of Debra (Joseph) Stoltman, Linda (Paul) Posco, William (Laura), Pamela and Betty Ann Ahrens; grandfather of fourteen; great-grandfather of two; and brother of Richard (Carol) Ahrens and Carole (the late Louis) DiPinto.
