Leon J. Bentley, 78, of 505 Orwood Place, died Wednesday at his home. A native of Seriba, he lived in Syracuse most of his life. Mr. Bentley was a self-employed drywall and sheet rock contractor for many years. A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Bentley served aboard the U.S.S. Benson in the Pacific Theater. He was a 28-year member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Phoenix Memorial Post 5540. Mr. Bentley was a communicant of St. Daniel's Church. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, the former Rae Anne Grosso; a sister, Cecil Hilleboe of Saratoga Springs; four brothers, James A., Robert N. and Richard C. Bentley, all of Phoenix, Ariz. and Leonard C. Bentley of Oneonta; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Pirro & Sons Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Daniel's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 514 Turtle St. Contributions may be made to the Caring Coalition Hospice, 1800 E. Genesee St., Syracuse.
