Clark was born near Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio, son of John and Mary Rodgers. From family and public records it appears John and his father William put the d in the name permanently, even though the D was in and out in other relatives names. For example, John's brother, Thomas, did not always put the d in, and his son Andrew Watts Rogers never put the d in the name. Family records and genealogy resources indicate that Clark's ancestors and some descendants are:

1. William Rodgers b: early 1700s County Antrim, N Ireland, d: C. 1730. Wife: Jane or Jean Hamilton b: C. 1712 N. Ireland, d: C. 1730, m:1728. (2 children: Hamilton b: 1726 , and Arthur b: after 1730) Immigrated to America in about 1729. "William and Jane with two boys moved to Bucks Cty, PA in the 1730s and soon after they died." More current research shows they died by 1730 and their sons were moved to Bucks County, PA. The two sons were taken in by a pastor and his wife.

Sons, Hamilton Rodgers (Rogers in some public documents) and Arthur Rogers (his line seems to always be without the D) moved to VA about 1769 near Leesburg, Loudoun County, VA. Arthur's descendants stayed in VA. Hamilton's family moved on because of a dislike of slavery, moving to KY, OH, IL, IA, and beyond. Families remain in at least KY, IA, Il, and CA.

2. Hamilton Rodgers b: 1726, County Antrim, N. Ireland, d: about 1807 Ross County, Ohio. Wife: Isabella Means (may be found as Mains) about 1728 Tinicum Twp. Bucks County, PA. d: 18 Aug 1815 Ross County, Ohio, and she is buried at Rodgers (Rogers) McElwain Cemetery, Fayette County, OH, m: 1747 Bucks Cty, PA. (9 children). Lived in Bucks Cty, PA, then Leesburg, VA, then Bourbon County, Kentucky, then just west of Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio.

(Information above is believed to be accurate, however not all has been verified from actual documents, although is from genealogy and historical writings)

3. William Rodgers: b. 8 Jun 1750 Bucks County, PA, d: 21 Aug 1824 buried in the Mt. Union Pleasant Valley (Union) Cemetery, Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio. Wife: Phebe Swart b: about 1754 d: November 3, 1823 also in Union Cemetery.

4. John Rodgers. Buried in the Union Cemetery, Chillicothe, OH, next to his parents. A brother, Thomas Rogers, Greenfield, OH, had a son, Andrew Watts Rogers. Andrew went to Miami University, Ohio where he was one of six founders of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Andrew was a Colonel in the Civil War, a lawyer and judge, and is buried in Warrensburg, MO.

5. CLARK RODGERS, moved from Ross County, OH to Pickaway County, OH then to a few miles north of Colchester, IL with brother Randolph Rodgers. Wife: Nancy Bennett. Later in life, Clark Rodgers and Nancy Bennett Rodgers, moved from Colchester, IL to Fulton County, north of Lewistown, IL., where her family apparently lived. They are buried at the Wright Cemetery, a few miles north of Lewistown, IL.

6. Scott Rodgers, and Minerva Laws Rodgers moved to Crawfordsville, Iowa from Colchester, IL. They are buried in Crawfordsville, IA. An older brother, John Bennett Rodgers moved to Lucas County, IA.

7. Charles Rodgers, and Edna Young. They are buried in Crawfordsville, IA. Sister: Pearl Rodgers McNeill married Dayton McNeill, buried Crawfordsville, IA.

8. Vern Ivan Rodgers b: 7 Sept 1914 Crawfordsville, IA d: 12-24-1968, and Helen North. They are buried in Crawfordsville, IA. Vern's brothers: Glenn {buried in Winfield, IA}, Gerald {buried in Crawfordsville, IA}, Cleo Rodgers {buried at Finley Methodist Church, Henry Cty, IA}).

Many of this Rodgers family from Scott going forward, are buried in Crawfordsville, IA cemetery.

Inscription

Poem near bottom of gravestone. Words determined by Kathy Rodgers:

Father, the pains of death are past.
Labor and sorrow cease;
And life's long warfare closed at last
Thy soul is now in peace.

The poem is by James Montgomery, a Scottish born poet.
