Mary Frances Bellows Johnson went to her maker Wednesday, June 2, 2010. Service: 12:30 p.m. Monday in Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Arlington. Committal: Moore Memorial Gardens. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington. Mary was born in Moreland on Oct. 26, 1923, to Clyde Bellows and Annys Smoot. She was the eldest of four children born to Clyde and Annys. Mary moved to Arlington in 1940 with her family. She attended North Texas Agriculture College in 1941. In 1942, she met and married Glen Johnson. Their marriage lasted 48 years, when Glen died. During that time, Mary worked hard to help provide for her family. She worked from her home addressing envelopes for John Newborn. With money she saved, she purchased a small grocery store in Haltom City and operated this store for the next four years, often working 16 hours a day. After selling the store, Mary worked for Levine's Department Store and W.T. Grant's. She then went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration for over 20 years until she retired. During all this time she remained a devoted mother to her two sons, supporting them as den mother in their Cub Scout troops, actively participating in the PTA and supporting them in their life pursuits. After her children left home, she became a loyal grandmother and traveled as often as possible, often taking her grandchildren with her. She was an active member of the Eastern Star, serving as an officer. Mary's family always came first and she enjoyed being with them as much as possible. In failing health, Mary moved to Decatur, to be near her loving son, Jim Johnson. It is there that Mary joined her maker. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Bellows; sister, Norma Bellows Ulery; and her husband, Glen Johnson. Survivors: Sons and their families, Jim Johnson and wife, Catherine, and Richard Johnson and wife, Jean Ann; sister, Betty Bellows Mills; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
