Edith Dorothy Johnson

Edith Dorothy Johnson, 74, of rural Powhattan, KS, passed away Saturday evening, October 15, 2005, at the Sabetha Community Hospital. She had been a resident of the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha for two years.

She was born at Powhattan, June 28, 1931, one of eight children of Warren and Grovia Moore Hobbs.

Edith grew up at Powhattan, attended schools there, later graduating from Powhattan High School. She later enrolled in classes to become a registered nurse at a Kansas City hospital.

She married Don R. Johnson, September 8, 1950, at Powhattan. They lived in Kansas City, Kansas, Liberty, Missouri, Honolulu, before returning to the Kansas City area to live. They later made their home at the farm near Powhattan in the early 1980's. He died June 14, 1997.

Survivors include three sons, Donnie Johnson and wife Carol of LaCygne, Kansas, David Johnson and Duane Johnson, both of rural Powhattan; A daughter Annalee Johnson of ElCajon, California; A brother Clyde Hobbs of Hood River, Oregon; two sisters Ruth Bates of the San Francisco, California area, Anna Marie Corley of Kansas City, Missouri; And five grandchildren.

Edith was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Elizabeth and Geneva; two brothers Paul and Ray.

Funeral services are planned for 11:30 a.m., Wednesday morning, October 19, at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Interment will follow at the Powhattan Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Tuesday until service time Wednesday. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Missy's Mirror which may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., Hiawatha 66434.
