Obituary published Thursday July 20, 2017 in the Amarillo Globe-News (Amarillo, Texas) and the Southwest Times Record (Fort Smith, Arkansas):

"Susan McCrary Smith, 80, of Fort Smith, formerly of Amarillo, Texas died Monday, July 17, 2017.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery with Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Susan was born Aug. 12, 1936, in Dallas to Robert Elmer and Alva Jean McCrary. Shortly thereafter, the family relocated to Amarillo. Susan attended Margaret Wills Elementary, Sam Houston Junior High School and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1954. She later attended Amarillo College, where she was a cheerleader and a member of the dance team. Susan married her high school sweetheart, Hershel Smith Jr., and they lived in Austin while he was attending University of Texas. They moved back to Amarillo and raised two sons before relocating to Hope. Susan was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo and First Presbyterian of Hope.

Susan was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Hershel.

Survivors include a son, Armand W. Smith, and wife Nancy of Peoria, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Jennifer Smith and husband Roy of Ottawa, Kan.; a grandson, Austin W. Smith of Peoria; a son, Kevin R. Smith and wife Kathy of Fort Smith; a granddaughter, Madeline Butler and husband Cody of Tulsa, Okla.; and a grandson, Collin Smith and wife Beth of Fort Smith; two great-grandchildren; and a younger brother, Robert Nick McCrary of Amarillo.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home."
