Martha A. Davis came to Fairmont in the spring of 1884, to join her husband, U.L. Davis, who had come the year before.

Mrs. Davis was born at Hornerville, New York, October 25, 1851. She was married to Mr. Davis at Reed's Corners, New York, January 18, 1869. To this union two sons were born, Charles A. of York, Nebraska, and Byron D. of Loup City, Nebraska.

When Mrs. Davis came to Fairmont with the two boys to join her husband, they purchased the Porter house north of the Burlington tracks, where they have made their home until their departure to the Better Land. The husband preceded her in October, 1932.

The entire family united with the Fairmont Congregational church, April 19, 886. Mrs. Davis, since that date has been a very devoted worker in the church until failing health made it impossible for her to attend. However, her interest in the church and the various activities did not abate, but always inquiring as to how the church was getting along.

Mrs. Davis was patient and cheerful during the months of her suffering. The same gladsome spirit was manifested to the end which had been hers through the years.

It was on her eighty-third birthday that she slipped quietly away to enter into the new life of the Spirit for which she had longed.

She leaves behind her two sons; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Cornelia Van Orman; one brother, Carson C. Foster; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held last Saturday morning at 10:30 from the Federated church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Isaac Cassel, and interment made in the Fairmont cemetery.
