Son of John and Elizabeth (Champion) Pelton.
Husband of Mary (Griswold) Pelton.

Josiah Pelton provided civil service during the American Revolution and is proven as a Patriot in the NSDAR.

Josiah Pelton of Connecticut arrived in Gustavus Center in 1800 after purchasing 6,605 acres comprising the northern half of Gustavus Township
from Lemuel Storrs. In 1802, Pelton's son Jesse and his fiance Ruhamah DeWolfe accepted the offer of 100 acres to the first woman to settle in Gustavus.

Occupation - farmer and ships carpenter from Killingsworth or Essex, Connecticut, purchased 6,605 acres of land from Colonel Lemuel Storrs in 1800 for $7,788.78. Col. Storrs was Quartermaster to Josiah's maternal uncle, Gen. Henry Champion during the American Revolution.

Josiah Pelton set up the first saw mill to operate in Gustavus. He sawed out planks for the houses, which soon replaced the log cabins.

Josiah and Mary had fourteen children born between 1769 and 1794 in Essex, Connecticut, all came to Gustavus to live.

In August 1811 Josiah married Chole Gilder, widow of Obediah.
