Robert Allen Hall, son of Reverend Benjamin Franklin & Ella (Painter) Hall was b. 12 Feb 1895 in Goldthwaite, Mills Co, TX (abt 90mi SW of Waco). He d. 11 Feb 1994 in Scott City KS hospital. His service was held at First United Methodist Church Scott City, & burial was in the Scott Co Cemetery 14February 1994.

Robert m. Pearl Elizabeth (Gross) 23 July 1932 at the Methodist parsonage in Colby Thomas Co KS with Reverend Otis Gunkel officiating. To this union were born 3 children: Benjamin Arthur (Norma Lou Eaton), Mabel Irene (Harold Wayne Stoker) & Leta May (Donald Thomas Akins - divorced) 8 Grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. Also survived by a sister Leona V Hall of Fairfield Solano Co CA & many nieces & nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, 6 brothers & 4 sisters, 2 grandsons & 1 great-granddaughter. He was the 8th of 12.

Robert's parents did not like living at Goldthwaite & moved to southern CA where the father preached & the family worked for a couple of years. Securing land near his brother at Atwood, KS, they lived there for 4 or 5yrs. Selling this property they went back to CA, north of the Bay area. There they worked as cutters in the fruit sheds. Robert also made shipping boxes for the fruit. After several years they moved southeast of Dallas, TX, where they farmed & set out a peach orchard. From there they went to OK to farm & pick cotton. When they went to Goodland KS they operated a large dairy, in addition to farming. Here the parents purchased land, built a sod house, farmed, broke horses & herded cattle.

Robert went to Salina hoping to further his education, but his health did not permit him to do so. After working as a janitor at the college for a year, he returned to the farm to help his parents.

It was at Sunday School where he taught that he met his future wife Pearl who was also a Sunday School teacher. Occasionally when the preacher could not be present, Robert would fill in for him.

When 1st married Pearl & Robert lived in a small frame home on the family property north of Goodland. Later they lived in 2 other sod houses on the family farm. During the dustbowl days of the depression they worked hard at whatever they could for survival. One year they helped Pearl's grandmother with the George Howard farm near Oakley KS after Pearl's brothers, Ralph & Howard Gross left for college.

Robert & Pearl secured a small farm at Penrose Fremont Co CO where they raised cattle & furnished milk to a dairy. In the mountains they sawed wood & cut posts. He worked as a special maintenance man for Portland Cement Company until he retired at 65. Selling the farm they moved to Cañon City where he did odd jobs, gardening, yard work & sawing wood. As the altitude seemed too high, they sold their place & moved to Scott City Scott Co KS where they could also be nearer their children. There they also did yard & garden work as long as their health permitted.

He often mused that he would like to visit Texas once again. In lieu of that journey he requested that at his burial a bit of Texas dirt be spread over his coffin. Several years previously his then son-in-law Don had brought back a container of Texas soil. Each of the children & grandchildren present shared in making his final wish come true--A bit of Texas at his beginning & at his end.

Husband's notes: They lived on a farm NE of Goodland Sherman Co KS a few years. Then Drouth & depression caused them to move to a farm near Penrose Fremont Co CO in 1945. Robert worked at the Portland Cement Co in Penrose until he retired in 1960. Upon Retirement they moved to Canon City Fremont Co CO & later to Scott City Scott Co KS until Robert's death 11 Feb 1994. Pearl lived there till her death 26 Nov 2000. Robert liked working with hands – wood, etc. Vegetable gardener, World War I for short time, discharged because of poor health. Worked 1yr at college girl's dorm Salina KS. Health prevented his taking classes as he had wanted. Student of the Bible, Sunday School Teacher, preached occasionally. Farmed north of Goodland, Sherman Co, KS. Lived in a small frame house, then 2 different sod houses. Then moved to Penrose, Fremont Co, CO to work for Portland Cement Company.
