Samuel Drake Barnes, an old resident of this city, died yesterday at his home, No 226 East 124th street. Mr. Barnes was born in this city on April 24, 1800. The greater part of his life was spent on the farm of his father in East Chester, Westchester County, NY. He was one of the party who escorted Lafayette through Westchester County when that General made his celebrated visit. Three years later Mr Barnes established the Manhattan Iron Works, in Suffolk Street, near Houston. Mr. Barnes was one of the first to suggest burning coal for domestic purposes. He was married in 1828 to Miss Susan M Talbot, who, with four daughters and three sons, survives him
