After being in failing health for several years Charles Franklin Short passed away at the age of 84. His death occurred at 7:45 a.m., Saturday, December 16, 1965, at his home in Stanley. He was born on June 23, 1881, in Stanley to the union of the late Franklin and Susan Burns Short. He was a member of the Stanley Baptist Church and a retired laborer of the railroad. He was married to the former Maggie M. Good, who died on February 28, 1939. Two sons, Harry F. and Charles W. Short live in Stanley; one daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Presgraves lives in Luray; three other daughters, Mrs. Beulah Dinges, Mrs. Nellie Purdham and Mrs. Mary Stillwell, live in Stanley, also. Seven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren are also surviving. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, December 20, from the Stanley Baptist Church with the Rev. William H. O'Neal officiating. Burial took place in the family cemetery.
