Funeral services for Mrs. W. E. Colvin, resident of Griggs county for 35 years and well known in this community, were held in the German Lutheran church Wednesday with Rev. L. Mehl of Wimbledon officiating.
Mrs. Colvin, 68, succumbed at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Frank A. Meeker, of Elmhurst, Ill., Saturday. Ill for some time, her death was attributed to cancer.
She was born Ada Flavia Abbott December 29, 1872, in Beloit, Kansas. She spent most of her youth in Nebraska, was a student at Denver University for four years and for one year at Lawrence College in Appleton, Wis., from which she graduated in 1896.
She taught a year in Wisconsin and followed this with seven years of teaching in Nebraska schools and colleges. On June 11, 1904, she was married to William E. Colvin of Ida Grove, Ia. Mr. and Mrs. Covlin moved to Griggs county from Iowa in March, 1906, and have lived on their farm in Clearfield township ever since.
Mrs. Covlin also taught for several years in the Cooperstown high school and in Griggs rural schools.
She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Albert M. Evers of Binford, Mrs. Albert F. Zipf of Bakersfield, Calif., and Mrs. Frank A. Meeker of Elmhurst; and one adopted son, Arthur P. Covlin of Seattle, Wash. One son died in infancy. There are six grandchildren.
