Mrs. Catherine McGrath Chaussee was born in Dubuque, Iowa, Nov 15, 1861, and moved to South Dakota with her parents in a covered wagon and settled on a farm in Union county shortly after.

Mr. Chaussee operated a butcher shop here several years, then he and his wife moved to Volin, where he had charge of a butcher shop there for a few years. They returned to Vermillion shortly afterward.

On Mrs. Chaussee's 70th birthday she and her husband celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Chaussee died a few months later.

Since January 11 she had lived in the home of her son, George, in Vermillion. Left to mourn her passing are three children, Mrs. Walter O'Connor, Mrs. Leo Walz, and George Chaussee; one brother, Peter McGrath, of Mountain Home, Idaho, 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

All of the surviving relatives, except the brother and one grandchild, Lowell O'Connor, now in Regina, Canada were here for the services.
