Virgil Doyle McKinney was born in Houston Co., TX in the community of Plain,near Ratcliff. He was the second child of Marvin and Zell (Rhodes) McKinney. Virgil started school in Kennard and attended school in Wells, Groveton, Lufkin, Elkhart, Grapeland and Whiteside. His father worked at a peckerwood sawmill and it was moved often from one location to another.
After graduating from Central ISD he joined the Army and served three years in the Signal Corps.
USA-Korea
After being honorably discharged from the Army, he went to work at Southland Paper Mill and worked there as a pipefitter until his retirement on 1989.
Virgil married Doris Jean Sullivan.
Doris Jean was the first World War II baby of Angelina Co. She was born at Angelina Co. Hospital while Pearl Harbor was being bombed.
At the time of his death he was survived by his wife and three children.
