Pauline was born February 22, 1921 in Almartha, MO to George Russell and Lora Maggie (James) Mefford.
She had 8 siblings, three sisters Auda, Eulah and Beulah and five brothers including her twin brother Paul, Edward, Troy, Hadley and Ted.
She married Homer Walker on June 10, 1940 in Ava, MO. They were married almost 57 years. Homer passed away February 14, 1997.
They had three children: Joe Gwin, Lora Sue and Nancy Ellice.
They lived in St. John, KS, Parsons, KS and Chanute, KS. After being in Chanute for around 20 years, the family moved to Pittsburg in 1968 and was in the Pittsburg/Frontenac area for the remainder of her life.
After moving to Pittsburg, Pauline worked for Medicalodge beginning in January 1969. She started as a nurse aide at Golden Age Lodge #2 which she helped move the residents to what is now Medicalodge South.
In 1978 she became a Certified Medication Aide and continued until her retirement in 1988. She was noted by residents and staff alike to give loving care to all.
She is survived by two children, Joe Gwin Walker and wife Vida of Topeka, KS and Nancy E. Clinton and husband Tony of Frontenac, KS;
brothers Paul Mefford of Sparta, MO and Edward Mefford of Springfield,
MO; along with seven grandchildren Rusty and Randy Walker of Topeka,
KS, Danny Manly and Debby Manly Lohse of Wamego, KS, Rob Clinton
of Pittsburg, KS, Julie Clinton and Jennifer Tolley of Frontenac, KS; along
with 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Lora Sue Manly
and son-in-law Skip Manly.
Funeral services will be 1:30pm, Friday, June 4, 2010 at Friskel Funeral
Home, 230 E. McKay St, P.O. Box #907, Frontenac, KS with Jerry Kendall
officiating.
Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in rural Pittsburg, KS. The family will receive friends from 7-8pm on Thursday at
the funeral home. Friends may call the funeral home after 4pm on
Thursday. The family suggest expressions of sympathy be in the form of
memorials to the Church of Christ of Pittsburg and/or Harry Hynes
Memorial Hospice. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Friskel Funeral
