Riley C. Jones, 87, of London, died Friday, December 25, 2009 at St. Anthony's Medical Center in Morrilton, AR. The son of Robert Lee and Freda Epps Jones, he was born September 26, 1922 in the Ball Hill Community. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre and receiving the EAME with silver star for 5 campaigns and the purple heart. Riley worked for almost 30 years at the International Shoe Company in Russellville. He was a member of the Rogers-Rye Post of the VFW, a life member of the AM Vets. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and helping his friends with fixing their lawnmowers, tractors, and vehicles. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jackie Jones; 3 brothers, C.L. Jones, Peter Smith Jones and Scott Jones.
He is survived by four children, Jerry Jones, Dover, Mary Gibson and husband Jim Ed, London, Tammy Reed, Russellville, Sandy Jones, Russellville; 7 grandchildren, Jeff Gibson, London, John Gibson, Little Rock, Jamie Jones, Dover, Jason Jones, Russellville, Randy Freeman, Bee Branch, Hunter Holman, Lamar, Holley Holman, Lamar; 5 great grandchildren, Amber, Ashley, lovingly called, "Rudy", Clarksville, Allyson Gibson, Clarksville, Clayton Seely, London, Emma Gibson, London; a great great-granddaughter, Kennedy Gibson; a sister, Bennie Jones, Vallejo, CA; a half brother, Harold Jones, Dardanelle.
Funeral will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, December 28, 2009 at Humphrey Chapel. Rev. Jerry Schlinker will officiate. Burial will be at Ball Hill Cemetery with full military honors provide by the Rogers-Rye Post #2283 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars by Humphrey Funeral Service. Pallbearers are Mr. Jones grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are R.J. Cochran, Blackie Cossey, Smiley Vinson, Dennis Lowe and Shorty Johnson.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on Sunday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to London First Assembly of God Church, 56 Old Wire Rd, London, AR 72847. Internet obituary and on-line guest book are available at www.humphreyfuneral.com.
