Mamie Novella Kennedy was born May 11, 1916, in the Long's community to Ruth and U. S. Fraze and died May 28, 2010, in Portales. Mrs. Kennedy grew up in the Long's community where she attended grade school. She graduated from high school in Rogers in 1935, and on October 12th of that year married Ted Clark. They made their home in Rogers until 1949 when they moved briefly to Florida and then to South Texas. In 1959, the family moved to California, and returned to Rogers in 1962.
Mamie was a very busy and devoted mother, rearing her seven children and helping with farm and dairy work. She was a firm but fair disciplinarian. In addition to everything else she needed to do for her family, Mamie also sewed most of the girl's clothes and the boy's shirts. During the mid 1970's she worked at the local Anthony's store as a sales clerk.
After she and Mr. Clark divorced in the late 1970's, she moved to San Angelo, TX where she also worked as a receptionist at the retirement center where she lived. On September 18, 1992, she was married to D. L. Kennedy, and they returned to Portales to make their home. Mrs. Kennedy was reared in the Methodist church, but for several years she and Mr. Kennedy attended the Calvary Baptist Church where her husband was the custodian.
She is survived by her husband, D. L. Kennedy of their home; four sons, Joe A. (Linda) Clark of Cottonwood, CA, Ben S. (Carol) Clark of Oroville, CA, Tom P. (Karen) Clark of Portales and Mike D. (Ann) Clark of Causey; three daughters, Virginia R. Wales of Mertzon, TX, and Barbara D. (Allen) Weidner and Susan E.
