Funeral services for Mr. Cecil Byron Sistrunk, age 90, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wed. June 2, 2010, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley and Bro. Rodger Cole officiating.

Interment will follow at Deadwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Sistrunk passed away on Sunday night, May 30, 2010, in Carthage.

Cecil Byron Sistrunk was born on Nov. 22, 1919, in the Riderville Community of Panola County, TX to Joseph Christopher and Mary Frances McFadden Sistrunk.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was honorably discharged.

Mr. Sistrunk married Gertrude Peace on May 9, 1946, in Center, TX.

He was a member of the Carthage Fire Department from 1957, until his retirement in 1985. He loved fishing, hunting, and gardening. Mr. Sistrunk lived all of his life in Carthage and was a member of the First Baptist Church where he was also a member of the Berean Sunday School Class.

Mr. Sistrunk was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Gertrude Peace Sistrunk who passed away on Apr. 12, 2010; three brothers, Linvel, Everett, and Phillip Sistrunk; and two sisters, Maxine Lewis and Alice Shaw.

Mr. Sistrunk is survived by two daughters, Debbie Weems and husband Elton of the Antioch Community and Carolyn Sue Butcher of Carthage; one sister, Willie Jo Barnett of Carthage; two grandsons, Brad Weems and wife Crystal of Carthage and Blake Weems and wife Brittney of Carthage; and three great-grandchildren, Braley, Tucker, and Tanner Weems.

Serving as pallbearers are Ross Johnson, James Moon, Guy Bunyard, Dennis LaGrone, Perry Smith, Jim Young, Clayton Eubanks, and Brian Rickert.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are the remaining members of the Carthage Fire Department.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Carthage Healthcare and Heart's Way Hospice for the loving care shown to Mr. Sistrunk.
