Funeral services for James Monroe Murray, 79, retired farmer, were held Friday afternoon at Atoy Cemetery. He died late Thursday after a short illness.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Willie Ann Murray; three sons, W.A. Murray of Rusk, and J.B. and Dewey Murray of Ponta; five daughters, Mrs. Lela Wilburn of Maydelle, Mrs. Frankie Birdwell of McKinney, Mrs. Lorina Rose of Mooringsport, La., Mrs. Bertha Jackson of Ponta and Miss Katie Murray of Cushing; two brothers, three sisters, 51 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren also survive. Ponta Man Dies On November 26 PONTA., Dec. 4. -
On Thursday afternoon, November 26, the death angel visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Jackson and took their father, J. M. Murray.Mr. Murray had been ill only a short time with the flu.He was 79 years, ten months and ten days old. He was born January 15, 1857. He was one of the most beloved men in this section of Cherokee. He was a hard worker until about 14 years ago when his eyesight left him. He has been a member of the Baptist Church since 1924. He leaves a wife and eight children, five girls, Mrs. H.R. Wilburn, Maydelle; Mrs. P.H. Birdwell, Macune; Mrs. J.W. Rose, Mooringsport, La.; Mrs. J.L. Murray, of Cushing; Mrs. J.O. Jackson, Ponta; three boys, W.A. Murray, Rusk; J.B. Murray, Ponta; and D.C. Murray, Ponta. He has 50 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters.Funeral services were conducted by Rev. V.E. Monroe at the Baptist church of Atoy, Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Six grandsons acting as pallbearers were Edward Murray, Lee Murray, Willie Murray, J.H. Murray, Grady Murray and R.L.
