William Roy Spence, 88, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2002 at Nash General Hospital. He was born June 23, 1914, in Pasquotank County, NC, son of the late Willie D. and Emma Dillon Spence. Bill was a WWII Navy veteran. He was a charter member of Lakeside Baptist Church. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner (Queen City Lodge #602). Bill retired from Eli Lilly Drug Co., as a detail pharmaceutical representative, and was later employed as a pharmacist with Raper Drug Co.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 10 years, Alberta Roemer Spence; his children, Bill Spence and wife, Janie, of Raleigh, Betty Laughinghouse and husband, Ed, of Sparta, and Lynn Beattie and husband, Chuck, of Seven Lakes; and his grandchildren, Jason Spence and wife, Becky, of Greensboro, Stephen Spence of Waynesville, Jacquelyn Beattie of Boone, and Steven Beattie of Seven Lakes.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Lakeside Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lakeside Baptist Church, 1501 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, or to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders, Assoc., Inc., 919 N.
