Alexander Mitchell Deakins died 5-12-1944, formerly known as Uncle Mitch Deakins passed away at his home near Dunlap Friday morning, May 12. Deceased lived on the old home place, the Frank Deakins Farm, and was 85 years of age. As a young civil engineer he helped to survey and lay out the town of Dunlap. He was the last of the old Deakins clan. He was a bachelor and is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. (Another obit says that he had no relatives in this section of the country). Funeral services were held from the residence Sunday afternoon at 2:00 with the Rev J.W. Harwood officiating. Interment followed in Thans Chapel Cemetery. Active Pallbears were Earl, Sam, Mime, and Hill Deakins, Lewis and Mitchell Walker. Among those that attended the funeral from here were Mr. and Mrs. Humble, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Barker, Mrs. E.K.
